Chipboard craft....Disney style!

I'm gearing up for a big long road trip out to California.  We will be making fun stops along the way and back...with a big magical stop at Disneyland.  I am sooo excited.  I have been to Disney World many times, but this is my first trip to Disneyland...the original.  So if you have any first timer tips or a "must see" attraction,  leave it for me in the comments. :-)

Since I am in the Disney mood, I want to share a fun and inexpensive project you can make using left over park maps.
This is a large chipboard monogram. It is perfect to have sitting on a book shelf or with your other vacation souvenirs.

You will need:
A large chipboard shape or letter (at Hobby Lobby a 10 inch chipboard is $4, plus your 40% coupon...great deal).  Park maps...a couple from each park, Mod Podge, a brayer, paint, and an Exacto knife.

What to do:
Tear pieces from the maps that are significant to you....favorite ride, show, snack cart, etc. Leave a little room around each piece for over lap.  Cover your chipboard with Mod Podge, then lay the pieces of map down...over lapping slightly.  Roll over everything with the brayer to get wrinkles and bubbles out.  Let dry, then cut any excess that is hanging off the edges with your exacto.  Paint the edge with whatever color paint you like.  After the paint dries, apply Mod Podge over the entire letter...I used a couple of coats, letting it dry in between.

You can do this same project with just one map if you prefer.  Just lay it over the entire chip board and follow the same steps.  Just make sure to position your favorite parts around any holes on the chipboard shape you will be cutting that part out. This project will also work great with brochures and street maps too.

Thanks for dropping by and Have a magical day!

Let's Talk About the Weather Challenge

Our weather has been CRAZY lately in my area.  One day it feels like summer, the next day it's cold, and the next we are having a flood watch.  All of this crazy weather is great inspiration for the challenge we have going on in the Some Odd World called "Let's talk about the Weather".   Drop by the SOG Forum for all the details, then create a card (using a Some Odd Girl image of course) that gives a hint to the weather.

Here's a little something I made for this challenge:

I made her rain boots and umbrella all shiny.

You can get Rainy Mae (along with other cute digis that would be great for the challenge) at the Some Odd Girl website.

All week long Some Odd Girl will be showing you fun and different ways to use your SOG digital stamps.  Today there is a little tutorial (by yours truly) on how to make Shrinky Dinks.  Do you remember those from the 80's??  Shrinky Dinks were so much fun and we have made them even better by using super cute SOG images....they are TOTALLY AWESOME!!

Here is a little sneaky peek for you...
What do you think about these little Odd earrings?? They are made from Shrinky Dinks. Head over to the Some Odd Girl blog for the full tutorial on how to make them yourself.

Super Hero Cake

It's been a while since I have blogged one of my cakes, so I have a fun one for you today.  I made this one for my brother-in-law who happens to love super hero and comics books.  Each layer represents a character with their color and belt.  The cake topper is a bank that can be used long after the cake it gone.  By the way...my bro-n-law is grown...older than me.  Even grown ups can have a fun character cakes! :-)

The bottom layer is Gambit from X-men, middle layer is Batman, and the first layer is Wolverine from X-men. The cake topper is the Spider man bank.

New Sketch Challenge

It's May....MAY people!! That means it's time for my baby boy to become an official teenager.  I'm not sure I am ready for teen years, but it is happening...ready or not.  A new month also means a new sketch challenge over at Some Odd Girl.  Come over and check out the sketch and the prizes, then play along with us!!

Any time one of my kiddos has a birthday, it gets me to thinking about them as a baby.  I just loved those big baby eyes, sweet baby hair, and cute diaper bottoms.  My card for the SOG sketch challenge has all of that baby cuteness...times two.   I used the Tiny Baby digi stamp and printed one as the mirror image to make my twins.

*** DON'T FORGET...today is the last day to get in on the Open Entry Round for Odd Idol.  Get your entry because you do NOT want to miss out on those awesome prizes!!***
